What is DKIM ? Definition
DKIM stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail, a digital signature for email that functions like a unique sticker on a postcard, verifying the sender’s identity.
When an email is sent using DKIM, it gets a unique signature based on the content and the sender’s domain, which is added to the DKIM signature email header. The recipient’s email provider checks the DKIM signature to verify the email’s origin and ensure its content hasn’t been tampered with.
This process helps prevent spam and phishing by making it harder for someone to pretend to be someone else via email. To achieve this, it’s important to properly configure your DKIM records.
A domain owner needs to generate a DKIM key pair to set up DKIM authentication for their domain name, comprising a public key and a private key.
The public key is included in the domain’s DKIM record, which is also known as the domain’s DKIM DNS record. You can use a DKIM record checker tool to verify if your domain’s DKIM record is set up correctly, even when using multiple DKIM keys.
The benefits of implementing DKIM are numerous, spanning from preventing email spoofing to improving email deliverability. Email service providers, such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, have made the DKIM setup process simple and straightforward, taking only a few minutes to complete.

A proper DKIM authentication will be mandatory to deliver your emails to Gmail and Yahoo in 2025
Starting February 2025, Gmail and Yahoo Mail will require bulk email senders to authenticate their emails using security protocols like DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
This change affects senders who send more than 5,000 daily emails to Google and Yahoo addresses. By adhering to these requirements, bulk senders can ensure their emails are delivered and maintain a strong email reputation.
Senders should also validate their emails using SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) for Gmail and Yahoo Mail, alongside DKIM. These protocols enable organizations to counter email spam and spoofing.
To comply with the new requirements, bulk email senders must:
Authenticate your emails using security protocols like DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
Allow people to easily unsubscribe by clicking just one link, and honor unsubscribes within two days.
Keep the spam complaint rate under 0.3%
